Dog Walk and Charity Ride 2012
Year after year, we always have the same questions…. How much will be collected? Will the people attend our events? Will they donate money towards abandoned animals?
And then when we come to this day, to present the official sum, with pleasure we realise how much the Maltese people love the animals.
We have our difficulties and the road to today be not easy. We face problems and to organise two big events is not easy either. But with love and support of our friends and our loyal sponsors we made it through another year.
If we have a look at the events, on Saturday 7th January’12, the 2nd activity of the Pink Panther Dog Walk was held with the help of the Animal Welfare Department and once again it was a huge success and very well attended. The people gathered in front of Animal Welfare and at 1.45pm, the walk started to move towards Qormi where with the great assistance of the Qormi Local Council, coffee and pastries have been served to those present. Special thanks go to Golden Harvest, Catermax, PetLove. And Borg Cardona Co Ltd for distributing treats to the dogs and providing leashes for the sanctuary dogs.
The walk was headed by the On D Road bikers, followed by the Dogs Section of the Civil Protection Department, Animal Welfare Ambulance and Police Officers.
The day after, it was the turn for the 5th edition of the On D Road Charity Ride. This year we had to change the meeting place and thanks to the Splash n Fun owners, we were allowed to use their parking area as meeting place for bikers. At 8am, bikers started to gather and each biker donated €5 per person, redeemable as a lunch voucher at the end of the ride. At 10am sharp, the ride left Bahar ic-Caghaq, escorted by the Police Officers and Animal Welfare Ambulance towards the coast road, golden bay, Rabat through Mgarr, down to Qormi, Marsa, Mriehel, Attard, Mosta and then Burmarrd and finally at the Incognito Bar & Restaurant in Qawra, where the participating bikers were treated to a lunch. All bikers were entertained by the Cash & Band, who came from Gozo for this event.
The amount collected from these 2 events was that of €6,046.94.
These 2 activities were intensely publicised on ONE TV during the months of November 2011 to January 2012 and people could also donate through 3 pre-defined donations (€2.33, €4.66 and €6.99). The amount collected was that of €13,264.28.
The total sum of €19,311.22 was rounded up by Borg Cardona & Sons Ltd to the final figure of €23,000. Added to the money collected in the previous 4 years, we have the total of €68,800 collected purely to the benefit of the abandoned animals.
The money collected from these activities will be given out in voucher form, to be redeemed in pet food and medicine by those sanctuaries and gold hearted volunteers who are most in need. These people collect injured and helpless animals from the street and thanks to them; these animals are then cured and taken care of. Obviously this to happen, a lot of money is required and most of the time, these expenses are paid out of their own pockets.
These sanctuaries are the following: Noah’s Ark, AAA, Island Sanctuary, Gozo SPCA, Funny Farm, Happy Paws, Tomasina Cat Sanctuary, Cats & Dogs Shelter, CSAF, SFFA, SASG together with other 42 individual beneficiaries.

Dog Walk 2012 Gallery
For the past 5 years, the popular TV show On D Road, organised a charity ride in aid of abandoned animals. These events were always of a very huge success with the participation of over 957 bikers during last year’s ride.
In 2007, 2,300 Euros were collected in aid of AAA and a voucher refundable for food was given after the first ride! In 2008, over 7,000 Euros were collected in aid of SOS Animals Malta. In 2009, the sum went up to 13,500 Euros. Last year, the sum was even bigger, €23,000 all spread amongst Animal Sanctuaries and over 50 feeders in Malta.
This year, the producer of On D Road, Pierre Borg and Nevise Borg Caligari, producer of Pink Panther, are planning 2 other big events, the 5th Charity Ride + the 2nd Dog Walk in aid of all abandoned animals!
The money collected from these events, will be given out as vouchers of food & medicine to those sanctuaries and gold hearted people who are in most need. These people collect injured and helpless animals from the street. And thanks to them, these animals are then cured and taken care of. Obviously for this to happen, a lot of money is required and most of the time, they pay these expenses out of their pocket.
The Dog Walk is planned for Saturday 7th January 2012, at 1pm, meeting at Animal Welfare Department. The aim of this event is to collect funds for the abandoned animals, promote adoption of dogs from AAA and the Animal Welfare Department and a silent protest against animal abuse. We hear of daily abuse that happen in Malta, and this has to be stopped. All dog owners are encouraged to join us, and those who don’t own a dog, can book by phoning on 2590 4132 between 14th – 23rd Dec’11 from 9am – 12pm and book a dog from the sanctuary. For more details, join us on Facebook Page Pink Panther or our website www.pinkpanther.com.mt.
The Charity Ride will be held on Sunday 8th January 2012, meeting at Splash n Fun Car Park at 9.00am. Final Destination will be at Incognito Bar & Restaurant, Qawra were they‘ll be a bike show, music performed by Cash & Band and I’m not Johnny Cash, food & raffle. All bikers and biker clubs are encouraged to join us towards this important cause.
